Leading the way in Conservation
Anyone wishing to engage in land disturbance activities in New Jersey for the purposes of development or construction generally will be required to develop a site plan for the control of soil erosion during construction.  In New Jersey, plans for controlling erosion during construction must be designed in accordance with a comprehensive set of erosion control practices known as the Standards for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control.

BMP's
The Standards contain over 500 pages of Best Management Practices for temporary and permanent erosion control.   The Standards manual includes design guidance for structural practices, such as grass waterways or detention basins as well as a comprehensive list of plant species used for vegetative stabilization of disturbed soils.  The manual includes an appendix containing numerous design examples, charts, tables and copies of the regulations governing construction-related land disturbance activities.

Also included are full-color maps detailing locations of known geologic formations containing acid soils and limestone outcropping to help the designer to anticipate potential problems at the development site.  The Standards include tabbed dividers, are 3-hole punched and shrinkwraped.

Ordering
Copies of the Standards may be ordered from any of the 15 soil conservation districts for $35 plus shipping.  Unfortunately, the Standards are not available in electronic format at this time.
