More
than 100 randomly selected New Jersey farmers will
be asked to participate in the annual agricultural
resource management study being conducted by the
New Jersey Agricultural Statistics Service through
April 15.
"The
results of this study will be used to assess national
changes in the structure of agriculture, the impact
of changes in federal farm programs, and the affects
of adverse weather in 1998 on producers= net income
and cash flow," said New Jersey Agriculture Secretary
Art Brown, Jr. "I encourage all Garden State farmers
selected for this important study to participate
so that New Jersey's agriculture industry is well
represented in the study results."
The
study will provide objective, reliable, and up-to-date
information for use by public policy makers. Information
will be collected concerning agricultural income
and expenses, assets and liabilities, cost of producing
various commodities, and operating characteristics.
The data will help to show the financial health of
agriculture, how the various types of enterprises
within agriculture are performing, and whether some
sectors are more financially vulnerable than others.
New
Jersey farmers selected to participate in the study
have been notified and interviewers will visit them
personally to complete the report. USDA will publish
the results of this study later this year in a series
of reports on the farm financial situation. The study
results will be used nationwide by federal and state
governments, commodity analysts, producer organizations,
and others to benefit farmers and the rural community.
