(TRENTON) – Governor James E. McGreevey today nominated David James Weaver of Sparta to become the next Sussex County Prosecutor.
“Now more than ever, it is of vital importance for our State to have a strong team of County Prosecutors,” said McGreevey. “We have charged them with working in close partnership with federal, state and local authorities to keep our state and our citizens safe and secure. I am confident that David Weaver, who has over 20 years of legal experience and sharp leadership skills, will rise to this challenge as Sussex County Prosecutor.”
“I would like to thank the Governor for the honor he has bestowed upon me by selecting me as his nominee for the position of Sussex County Prosecutor,” said Weaver. “I appreciate the confidence he has shown in me and I look forward to the challenge of ensuring that our criminal justice system serves and protects all of the residents of Sussex County.”

Most recently, Weaver was a partner at Hollander, Hontz, Weaver, Hinkes & Pasculli, LLC. Formerly known as Trapasso, Dolan & Hollander, Weaver has worked at this firm since 1979. During this time, Weaver represented various governmental agencies, municipalities, businesses and individuals in areas of civil litigation, family law, municipal court, land use and real estate.
Previously, he was a Law Clerk to the Honorable A. Warren Herrigel, Superior Court of New Jersey in Hunterdon County.
Weaver graduated Cum Laude from Wake Forest University in 1976 with his BA. He entered Wake Forest School of Law after his junior year of college and earned his JD in 1978. He was admitted to practice in the courts of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Weaver is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Sussex County Bar Association. He is also a Trustee on the Karen Ann Quinlan Charitable Foundation Board, and is a member of the Early Settlement Panel of Sussex County and the Sparta Rotary Club. He has also coached soccer, little league baseball, softball and recreational basketball in Sparta.
Weaver’s nomination is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
