The audit division is responsible for conducting audits and reviewing the performance of the executive branch of state government, public institutions of higher education, independent state authorities, local governments and school districts.
William P. Challice, Director of Audits
William P. Challice brings 35 years experience as an auditor for the Office of the New York State Comptroller.

Challice began serving as that office’s audit director in 1987. He directed a staff of 60 professionals who conducted audits of agencies, programs and public authorities in New York State and New York City.

Beginning as a staff auditor with the New York State Comptroller’s Office in 1973, Challice worked his way up to associate auditor, audit supervisor, audit manager and finally audit director.

Challice is a certified internal auditor, certified fraud examiner and certified government financial manager. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Association of Fraud Examiners, and is the President of the Trenton Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the New York/New Jersey Intergovernmental Audit Forum.

Challice earned a Master’s Degree in Advanced Accounting from Adelphi University and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Baruch College. Challice and his wife live in Mercerville. They have four children and six grandchildren.
