TRENTON, N.J. -Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes joins the Mercer County Park Commission in announcing the opening of many exciting activities and recreational opportunities this week, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
The Delaware River boating docks behind Waterfront Park baseball stadium in Trenton and the Marina at Mercer County Park are now open, both perfect places where residents can enjoy the start of summer.
"Each year, the opportunities the Mercer County Park Commission provides for our park visitors increase, and summer 2008 is no different," said Hughes. "I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy one of our renowned parks."
An exciting addition to this summer's lineup of County sponsored recreational activities is pontoon boat lake tours and kayak rentals that will soon be available on Lake Mercer in Mercer County Park, according to Park Commission Executive Director Kevin Bannon.
The Marina also will be offering affordable fun this Memorial Day weekend with pedal boat and row boat rentals beginning Saturday, May 24th for a cost of $10 per hour. Beginning in June, kayak rentals will be available for $10 per hour and pontoon boat lake tours will be available for $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and children under 11. Memorial Day weekend hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The docks on the Delaware, located behind Waterfront Park, are available for use by the public. Boat owners have access the docks beginning May 21 through October with regular hours of sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. The docks are maintained and operated by the Mercer County Park Commission and allow travelers on the Delaware access to Trenton attractions such as Trenton Thunder games and KatManDu restaurant and nightclub. The docks are not staffed, so patrons are urged to practice water safety precautions.
Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township also offers residents beautiful setting for a variety of outdoor activities. The park is a prime fishing location as its 38-acre lake is stocked with trout and features a public access boat launch open to rowboats, canoes, and boats with electric motors. Rosedale also has a newly renovated picnic area, two playgrounds, and an extensive network of hiking trails.
