July-14-10 Mercer County encourages participation in National Health and Nutrition Survey
MEDIA CONTACT: Julie Willmot
TRENTON, N.J. - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be in Mercer County conducting the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from July 14, 2010 through September 23, 2010, and Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes is encouraging residents to participate in this essential survey of our nation’s health and nutrition status.
NHANES has been in existence since 1960 and has provided valuable information for almost 50 years on the prevalence of major diseases, risk factors for diseases, and the relationship between nutrition and overall health of all people living in the United States.
More than 5,000 people across the nation will participate in this year’s survey, and approximately 400 of those will be from Mercer County. Residents will be selected to participate on a random basis. Survey staff will first collect information through interviews scheduled in each participant’s home. Afterward, they will schedule an appointment for health measurements, which will be taken in a Mobile Examination Center at a local site that has been coordinated through Mercer County’s Office of Human Services.
If NHANES staff contacts you, please keep in mind you may be selected to participate in a survey that not only combines the valuable statistics you provide with information collected around the country, but also informs you about your own health and health risks. All information obtained in the survey is completely confidential.
If you have any questions about this study or about your participation in it, please feel free to call the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) at 1-800-452-6115.
