TRENTON, N.J. - Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes announced today that Airtex Products, Inc., an industry leader in aircraft interior manufacturing and installation, and a longtime loyal tenant of Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN), was contacted by ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and asked to assist with making improvements to an aircraft as part of their program.

The Cessna aircraft, which is owned by Air Mobile Ministries, is expected to arrive at TTN for its makeover on June 1, 2011.

Airtex Products, Inc. President Dodd Stretch is leading the refurbishment effort not only by utilizing the assets and talents of his company, but by enlisting the support of the entire community. He contacted the administration at Trenton-Mercer Airport and requested the airport’s help in spreading the word. The airport, owned and operated by the County of Mercer, was quick to respond.

“This is a great example of how those of us in county government can work with the private sector, and match those in need with those who are in a position to help,” said Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes.

Joe and Cindy Hurston are the operators of Air Mobile Ministries and the owners of the 1970 Cessna Skymaster aircraft in need of repair. Air Mobile Ministries transports water filtration systems worldwide to communities lacking safe drinking water because of poverty or disaster.

The Hurstons’ own home was recently destroyed after a water pipe burst, and ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” went to work on repairing the house. Additionally, the show also coordinated initial improvements to the aircraft, including installation of a complete line of Garmin avionics, with a G500 and dual GNS 430Ws. However there was much more to do, and Airtex President Dodd Stretch took the lead in marshalling the necessary parts, funding, and expertise required.

In addition to Stretch’s Airtex Products, Inc., the following companies have already donated to the effort: C&M Aviation Services, LP Aero, Maverick Insurance, Louisville Aviation, Plane Plastics, and Scheme Designers. Stretch noted that more help is needed.

To donate time, funds, parts, or expertise, please contact Dodd Stretch at (215) 295-4115 or by email at Dodd.Stretch@gmail.com.
