TRENTON, N.J. - Mercer County One-Stop Career Center is conducting a Career and Information Expo tailored specifically for military veterans who are seeking employment, Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hollowbrook Community Center, 320 Hollowbrook Drive, Ewing.
“We owe our military veterans a debt of gratitude, and I’m pleased to invite our veterans to visit the Career Expo to meet with prospective employers,” said County Executive Brian M. Hughes. “Our veterans represent some of our best trained and most prepared workers and I encourage employers, whether or not they will be represented at the Expo, to consider adding military veterans to their ranks of employees.”
The Nov. 10 date was selected to coincide with Veteran’s Day, which is commemorated each year on November 11, and with the birthday of the United States Marine Corps, which was adopted by resolution on Nov. 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines. The Veterans Career and Information Expo is open to all veterans including those who were recently released from active duty. Veterans from Mercer, Middlesex and Burlington counties have been invited to participate. All jobseekers are requested to dress professionally for possible on-the-spot interviews and to bring 30 copies of their resume. Prospective employers can register a table or booth for no fee.
Thirty-three businesses have already registered representing the following fields: education, banking, finance, hospitality, security, transportation, customer service, medical services and distribution and warehousing. Also expected is participation by several Veterans’ service agencies with informational booths.
Representatives from the Department of Labor & Workforce Development (LWD), Veterans Affairs, Helmets to Hardhats (H2H), the Mercer County Office of Veterans Affairs, and various social services agencies will be available.
