TRENTON, NJ
-- What is the secret ingredient to flourishing flower beds and bountiful vegetable gardens? Compost!

Producing barrels full of “black gold” is easier than inexperienced gardeners may think, and The Mercer County Improvement Authority will make it possible through its one-day-only back yard compost bin and rain barrel sale.

Join us for this one-day-only truckload sale of back yard composting bins and rain barrels on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, from 8 a.m. to noon. in parking lot 1 at the Sun National Bank Center, Route 29 at Hamilton Avenue, Trenton.

“Composting and rain collection are effective ways to help the environment and reduce waste, and a great addition to any Mercer County back yard. Plus, it offers a hands-on lesson in conservation for our children,” said County Executive Brian M. Hughes.

The compost bin will be available for only $55.00 and the rain barrel for $75.00, tax included. The compost bin will allow users to create their own organic compost for their landscaping and gardening needs while helping to reduce their curbside waste.

In order to obtain a bin and/or barrel, residents must reserve by Monday, Nov. 7. If reserved by Nov. 7, a free scrap bucket will be given with each compost bin. To reserve a bin and/or barrel or for more information, please call the Mercer County Improvement Authority at (609) 278-8100 or visit www.mcia-nj.com.

Homeowners purchasing a rain barrel will help reduce water pollution and soil erosion, while conserving a valuable natural resource. For more specifics on the products, please visit www.earthmachine.com and www.systern.com.
