Mercer County Equestrian Center To Hold Horsemanship Clinic Series

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J.—The Mercer County Equestrian Center is holding a two-day horsemanship clinic series, “Winter Tune-up for Spring Riding,” featuring Kenny Davis on Saturday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mercer County Equestrian Center on Federal City Road. Cost for horse and rider is $85 per day or $150 for both days; for auditors (spectators), $30 per day.

Davis, of Shokota Equestrian in Powhatan, Va., will be teaching three classes that will help you understand your horse better. On Saturday, learn to read the biggest misconception behind the spook in “Despooking: Truth vs. Myth.” Sunday offers two classes: In “From the Ground to the Saddle,” discover three zones around your horse on the ground and how they translate to the saddle for a more effective, cohesive movement between you and your horse; in “The 5 Tools in the Toolbox,” learn the five tools to guarantee safety, fun and direction in any horse and rider relationship.

"The biggest mistake I’ve seen people make with their horses is this: If you can’t do what you want on a horse at a walk, you can’t do it at a trot; if you can’t do what you want on a horse at a trot, then you definitely can’t do it at a canter/lope," Davis said.

A Meet and Greet with Davis, including a demonstration, will be held at the Equestrian Center on Friday, Nov. 23, from 5 to 9 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
