TRENTON, N.J. - The Zonta Club of Trenton/Mercer and the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women sponsored the International Day of the Family Picture/Essay contest, “What My Family Means to Me,” for Grades K through 8 in Mercer County.  The awards celebration was held May 15, 2013, at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System.

Before a crowd of family members, teachers and principals, the winners were awarded a certificate and a gift card to buy books at Barnes & Noble. The winners were: Samaree Roberts, Grade K, Wilson Elementary School, Hamilton; Elisa Soliz, Grade 1, Robbins Elementary School, Trenton; Jessica Quituizaca, Grade 1, Wilson Elementary School, Hamilton; Alani Diaz, Grade 2, Franklin Elementary School, Trenton; Tae Mae, Grade 3, Wilson Elementary School, Hamilton; Josephine Abraham, Grade 3, Trenton Catholic Academy; Nia Reed, Grade 4, Trenton Catholic Academy; Darriel Knox, Grade 5, Franklin Elementary School, Trenton; Brianna Seals, Grade 6, Lawrence Intermediate School; Ashanti Ross, Grade 6, Trenton Catholic Academy; Mira Ryu, Grade 6, Lawrence Intermediate School; Morgan Rhodes, Grade 7, Trenton Catholic Academy.  Special recognition was given to Maureen Mutinsky and her 6th-grade language class at Lawrence Intermediate School for their outstanding submissions.

Marygrace Billek, director of the Mercer County Department of Human Services, and Mary Brandt, president of the Zonta Club of Trenton/Mercer, congratulated all the winners and pointed to the display of pictures and essays by the winners. These pictures and essays highlighted the importance of family in the lives of the children.
