“We’re extremely proud of these students and the records they have achieved to earn these scholarships,” stated Doctor Donohue, “we are also grateful to the Freeholders for publicly saying to the community the importance of the education provided by our Community College.”
“Mercer County Community College has earned a well deserved reputation of offering a quality education to our residents,” said Freeholder Chair Ann Cannon, “their transfer programs are gateways to some of the finest 4-year colleges in the nation.” Freeholder Walter told the students that Mercer County was their “door to anywhere” and recalled a commencement speaker who was able to overcome setbacks and graduate from MCCC with honors. Dr. Donohue added that the 2010 graduate will be entering Stanford University this fall.
The goal of the Freeholders’ scholarship is to encourage Mercer County students to attend MCCC and provide financial assistance in their community college endeavors. In doing so, the scholarship program issues $2,000 to high school seniors who possess a minimum GPA of 2.8 and have plans to attend MCCC in the fall. This year, the Board was able to award 12 students with scholarships.
