The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders honors Hamilton resident Zachary Vena, 9, for his success in the 2011 Mercer County Special Olympics. Zachary, while a member of the MCSSD track and field team, earned Gold at the Area 11 Special Olympics, held May 1, 2011 in West Windsor, for both the 50 Meter Dash and the Softball Throw and Silver for the Standing Long Jump. While his success as a competitor is noteworthy, it was secondary to the tremendous sportsmanship and camaraderie he displayed toward his fellow competitors. His ability to show encouragement and happiness to all the other athletes was also recognized by the Freeholder Board.

On hand to share in Zachary’s honor were his proud parents Lisa and Bernard Vena, and his brother Joseph Vena.

Having attended the Joseph F. Cappello School at the Mercer County Special Services School District for five years, Zach is currently a third grade student at Morgan Elementary School in Hamilton Township.
