Catherine Di Costanzo, President of the local chapter of the Sunshine Foundation®, Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes and Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders Samuel Frisby, Sr., and Pasquale “Pat” Colavita, Jr., gathered for a ceremony at the McDade Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street to recognize the fundraising efforts of nine year old Theodore Frisby. Theodore, who attends Faith Christian Academy and is the son of Freeholder Sam Frisby, presented Ms. Di Costanzo with a $700 check to be used to assist children with disabilities to attend the Foundation’s annual Dreamlift to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Theodore raised the proceeds by selling original sketches of some of his favorite cartoon characters to family and friends for $5.00 each. Trenton resident Clete Davis has generously matched the first $500 raised, for a total of $1200 raised for the Foundation.
Theodore was inspired to raise money for the Foundation after seeing the effects the trip had on his older brother Samuel. Samuel, a student at Mercer County Special Services School District’s Cappella School, participated in the Dreamlift this past May and returned home tremendously excited and filled with joy from his experience. Theodore was so impressed that he wanted to do something to show his appreciation to the Foundation and started his “Theo Loves Desi” fund drive. Desi, short for Destiny, is a nick-name for Samuel.
According to Ms. DiCostanzo, it costs approximately $350 per seat for the Dreamlift. Theodore’s fundraising (to date) will cover the cost of nearly four special needs children. The next Dreamlift is scheduled for May 8, 2012.
