 In keeping with the tradition of Labor Day, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of American workers, the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently honored several local labor leaders. “It is important to remember that the Labor Day Holiday originated over a century ago by a grassroots movement to call attention the deplorable working conditions of the late 19th century. The organized labor movement that resulted, and continues today, is directly responsible for the protections and benefits that our nation’s workforce enjoys today,” said Freeholder Chair Cimino.
