NJ History Leadership Training Pilot
The New Jersey Historic Trust (NJHT), an agency affiliated with the Department of Community Affairs, State of New Jersey, is working in partnership with the New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC), Department of State, to develop a pilot board training initiative designed to improve leadership and governance at history organizations throughout the state. Recognizing that strengthening board leadership is a priority concern for non-profit organizations across the country, the NJHC and NJHT plan to offer vital training in professional standards to a pilot group of New Jersey history organizations. The NJHT and NJHC are seeking consultant services to develop a pilot program to assist approximately five non-profit history organizations in board capacity building over a period of fourteen months. The goal of the pilot is to develop a successful model for board training that can be replicated statewide. The successful proposal will be an integral part of the NJHT and NJHC’s efforts to secure short-term and long-term funding.
The NJHT and NJHC have partnered on a series of workshops designed to institutionalize professional standards at history museums and historic sites. The series has been modeled on the American Association for State and Local History’s Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPs). Building on the success of the 2013 workshop that explored board capacity building, NJHC and NJHT want to offer more intensive board leadership training by providing individualized services to a select group of organizations.
The successful proposal will be used by the NJHT and NJHC to seek partner funding from private sources. This project will move forward once funding is secured. The consultant must certify their cost proposal for one year as part of this Request. The agency(s) estimates this project to cost $25,000 - $35,000, inclusive of travel.See attached Request for Proposal for complete details and submission requirements.
