The
Division of Fire Safety has been working with the Office of Homeland
Security and the School Security Task Force regarding emergency
protocols that may be in conflict with the NJ Uniform Fire Code.
In fact, Director Canas of the Office of Homeland Security in consultation
with Director Petrillo of the Division of Fire Safety sent a letter
to all law enforcement agencies describing the issue of school districts
developing new emergency procedures without the input of the local
enforcing agencies.
The
Division requests your input; if you have specific cases in your
Local Enforcing Agencies or county regarding school lock-downs that
incorporate the locking or chaining of exit doors, or disregard
of fire alarms, please forward them to Paul Allen at 609-633-6130
as soon as possible so that these issues can be discussed with the
School Security Task Force.
