TRENTON , N.J. – Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Susan Bass Levin announced that an on-line database listing of all registered new homebuilders and claims against builders is now available.

“Protecting new homebuyers is an essential part of what we do at the Department,” said Commissioner Levin.  “This database will be an effective, useful tool in providing homebuyers with important information they should know before buying a home.”

The online database is one of many improvements DCA is making in response to an SCI report on the home building industry issued last year.  Other improvements include sending an information booklet to every new home buyer four months after closing, adopting a code of ethics for inspectors charged with enforcement of Uniform Construction Codes, and having private plan warranty providers simplify their claims processes.

Homeowners who wish to check the registered new homebuilders list should go to the link http://www.nj.gov/dca/codes/.  Once there, click on the “Updated List of Registered Home Builders” link under the middle column entitled “View the….”,.

Homeowners who wish to check on claims filed against builders should go to the link http://www.nj.gov/dca/codes/ and click on the “Learn about Consumer Information for new Homebuyers” link under the middle column entitled “I want to….”. The claims information is contained on the “New Home Builder Claim Report” link.
