Applications Now Available for 2009 New Jersey Historic Trust Grant Funding
Applications Cover Preservation Planning and Capital Preservation Grants

TRENTON, N.J. - The New Jersey Historic Trust today announced that Guidelines and Applications are now available for 2009 Historic Site Management Grants from the Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund and Capital Preservation Grants from the New Jersey Cultural Trust. Eligible properties are historic sites that are listed, or are eligible for listing, in the New Jersey or National Register of Historic Places.

"Preserving New Jersey's historic landmarks is an important way to remember who we are as a people and where we have come from," said Department of Community Affairs Commissioner (DCA) Joseph Doria. "Additionally, historic preservation adds greatly to New Jersey's tourism industry and can spur the type of economic development that Governor Corzine has deemed essential to revitalizing the state's economy."

Applicants may request Historic Site Management Grants, which range from $5,000 to $50,000. The grants may be used to fund the preparation of plans and studies needed to improve site stewardship, maintenance and interpretation.  Eligible grant recipients are nonprofit organizations and county or municipal government entities. Grant recipients are required to provide matching funds. All potential applicants should read the Grant Guidelines for information on eligible activities and special initiatives for 2009.

Applicants may also apply for Capital Preservation Grants from the New Jersey Cultural Trust. These grants range from $5,000 to $50,000 and may fund the repair, restoration and rehabilitation of, and improvements to historic resources. Only organizations that are certified by the New Jersey Cultural Trust are eligible to apply. Potential applicants should read the Grant Guidelines for information on eligible activities and special initiatives for 2009 and call the New Jersey Cultural Trust for more information at 609-984-6767.

Potential applicants, professional consultants and project coordinators are invited to attend an applicant workshop on March 19, from 2 - 4:30 p.m. The event will be held at Rowan University in Glassboro and also be presented by video conference to Bergen Community College in Paramus and The College of New Jersey in Ewing.
