HMFA to Participate in Affordable Housing Management Conference
Conference Aimed at Helping Affordable Housing Managers Improve Their Facilities

TRENTON - The New Jersey Affordable Housing Management Association (JAHMA), in association with the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA), will hold the 2009 Spring Management Event April 30 to May 1 at the Seaview Marriott Resort in Absecon. The annual conference provides technical and professional development training for owners, managers, staff, and board members of affordable housing facilities throughout the state.

"Affordable housing managers and staff have to be at their best in order to provide a good, safe living environment for the people who reside in affordable housing communities. This conference gives such managers and their staffs the timely, pertinent information they need to effectively do their jobs," said Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Commissioner Joseph Doria, who also serves as Chairman of the HMFA. "I encourage affordable housing management professionals to take advantage of this opportunity to advance their skills so they can improve the communities they serve."

JAHMA is a nonprofit professional association representing more than 250 property owners and managers who specialize in the development and operation of affordable housing communities. The association's Spring Management Event will offer 11 educational sessions on such topics as tax credits, safe living environments, work efficiency, management/tenant issues, and federal regulations. Attendees will be able to participate in roundtable discussions on the issues and receive expert advice on how to effectively deal with the real life scenarios they face everyday.

"This year's conference also features important updated information on green programs, including energy efficiency initiatives available to building owners," said Marge DellaVecchia, executive director of the HMFA. "We strongly encourage all to come out and learn about how to make and keep their properties more sustainable and efficient."

During the conference, JAHMA, through its Education Foundation, will award higher education scholarships to high school seniors who live in affordable housing communities affiliated with the nonprofit association. Special recognition will also be given to notable individuals and HMFA-financed affordable housing projects that have received an excellent rating.

The HMFA, an affiliate of the DCA, is dedicated to increasing the accessibility and availability of safe, decent and affordable housing to families in New Jersey. It works with traditional affordable housing developments, first-time homebuyers, senior citizens in senior and assisted living facilities, and the disabled in special needs communities.
