Honoring New Jersey’s Black Creek Site
(Bushkill to Worthington State Forest)

A 10,000 year old Native American site which was once occupied by the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indians. Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, will present history of the site and efforts by New Jersey Indian groups and the Department of Environmental Protection to preserve it.

D&R Greenway and Dr.Lorraine Williams will present at the Delaware Water Gap on the origins of Harry’s Farm and other points of interest.

4:00 New Jersey Youth Corps event at their facility in Phillipsburg. Secretary of State, Regena L. Thomas, will honor Youth Corps members at a ceremony that will also include a proclamation on their 20th anniversary, as well as a color guard and banners from previous events of the Secretary of State.

History and Culture of the Ramapo Nation and American Indian Travel
(Phillipsburg NJ to Upper Black Eddy, PA

Representatives of the Ramapo Nation will educate Philipsburg students about the history and culture of their tribe. The Delaware River Greenway Partnership will present on the Musconetcong River.

8:30 School event including students from two elementary schools, Green Street School and Andover Morris School, with presentations by representatives of the Ramapo Nation.

Travel with Delaware River Sojourn

The D & R Greenway and Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance will do presentations. Featured lunch event will include shuttle to private land at the top of the Delaware River bluffs where we will be hosting a picnic lunch and presentation.

Thomas, and participants. Speakers include Jim Arron, D&R Canal Commissioner and Linda Meade, D&R Greenery.

12:30 Event at Lambertville Access Area, with welcome by Mayor David DelVecchio of Lambertville. There will also be a recognition of Fred Lewis, the shad fishing patriarch of Lambertville, whose work on the annual shad festival contributed to the economy and quality of life of the area.

(Washington’s Crossing NJ to Bordentown NJ)

11:00 Disembark at the Filtration Plant and walk to the State Museum.
Location: 205 West State Street, Trenton

At the Museum there will be opportunities to view displays and there will be a presentation by the Inter-Tribal members of the New Jersey Commission on American Indian Affairs. There will be a light lunch for the presenters, AmeriCorps members, and canoe participants.

AmeriCorps members, who will be celebrating their end-of-year event, will join the group for the presentations.

A Day of Anniversaries: Celebrating New Jersey’s Natural Resources and Historic Sites
(Bordentown Beach NJ to Burlington NJ)

Travel with the Delaware River Sojourn
Starting from Bordentown Beach, the Sojourn and D & R Greenway will lead the group up from Crosswicks to the Abbott Farm for the 25th and 10th anniversaries.

Bordentown Mayor, John W. Collom III, about the important natural and cultural traditions in this area.

11:00 Raft-up for presentation by Dr. Mary Beck about Native American plants in the Marsh

12:00 Lunch at Watson Woods (Roebling Park) and Event to recognize the anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of Federal recognition of the Abbott Farm, the 15th anniversary of the D&R Greenway, and the 10th anniversary of the Delaware River Sojourn. Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell will join the celebration.

A Celebration of the Rankokus Powhatan Nation
(Rankokus Reservation to Mill Creek Park, Willingboro, NJ to Delanco NJ and completing the day with festivities in Camden NJ and on the Battleship New Jersey.

10:00 The day’s activities will begin at the Rankokus Indian Museum, and will include an appreciation of Chief Crazy Horse, Chair of the New Jersey Commission on American Indian Affairs, and the Rankokus Powhatan Nation. The activities will include displays of tribal history and musical presentations.

4:30 Board the Meerwald at Delanco. The Meerwald is New Jersey’s tall ship.

6:00 Meerwald arrival at Camden

7:00 Reception at Battleship New Jersey for American Indian participants, AmeriCorps alumni members, and other participants. There will also be a special sail on the Meerwald (6:30 – 8:30) for students who participated in an essay contest on American Indian themes.

FLAG DAY! Camden!!
(Camden NJ to West Deptford NJ)

There will be a parade in the City of Camden at noon, including school bands, ending at the Waterfront, with a reception at the South Jersey Performing Arts Center. There will also be an evening sail open to the public.

12:30 Parade through downtown Camden. Three area high schools bands will participate in the parade.

1:00-2:30 Celebration of Flag Day at the Waterfront for children.

This day will commemorate soldiers of many conflicts and New Jersey’s own Tea Burning Party.

8:00 Leave National Park for 7 to 9 hour sail to Greenwich

5:00/6:30 Arrival Greenwich for welcome ceremony, demonstrations, walking tour of Greenwich, including the Tea Burning site.

350th Anniversary, to the day, of the Pact of Friendship between the Swedish nation and the Nanticoke-Lenape Tribe and Indians of the River
(Greenwich NJ to Bivalve NJ)

This Commemoration will include a reenactment of the Pact of Friendship will include a representative of the Swedish Government.

8:00am Leave Greenwich for 7 hour voyage to Bivalve

5:00pm Arrive Bivalve for reenactment of the Pact of Friendship. Festivities and food.

7:30pm (By auto) to Fairfield for private ceremony at Lenape Land

Focus on Food, Arts, and Oysters
(Bivalve NJ to Cape May, NJ)

Bivalve was once among the leading areas in the nation for the oyster industry. Environmentalists are currently working to revive this industry through the introduction of a new species of oyster.

9:00 Event reflecting efforts to revive the oyster industry in the area. Special appreciation of the Delaware River Bay Authority, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Bayshore Discovery Project, and Rutgers University.

10:00 Meerwald leaves Bivalve for 4 to 6 hour passage to Cape May

6:00 Event and reception at Cape May Ferry Terminal under the auspices of the Delaware River Bay Authority.
