Why is this Important?
The NJDEP's Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is working with states in the region through the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC) to develop regionally consistent model rules to reduce ozone from specific source categories.  The NJDEP's DAQ considers these model rules in evaluating future New Jersey specific rules. 

Who is Affected?
The current model rules under development may contain emissions standards and best practice measures for the following operations and sources:

- Solvent Degreasing Operations model rule is mostly applicable to solvent cleaning operations in industrial and commercial locations;
- Paint Thinners and Multipurpose Solvents model rule applies to solvents sold as consumer products;
- Natural Gas Compressor Stations model rule focuses on natural gas pipeline compressor large prime movers;
- Idling restrictions for Non-road Equipment.

What Is Occurring?
The Ozone Transport Commission (OTC) is soliciting comments from the public regarding these model rules.  Information on these proposed model rules will be posted by OTC by Wednesday, August 24th at: http://www.otcair.org/document.asp?fview=meeting

Previous versions of model rules and white papers can be found at this website, and updates will be posted under the September meeting section.  Comments can be sent to the OTC at: ozone@otcair.org.  The comment period closes on September 30th.

In addition, the OTC is holding a public stakeholder meeting on September 8, 2011 to discuss these measures.  Information on meeting location, registration and agenda can also be found at:

The OTC is a multi-state organization in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, including New Jersey.  One of the goals of the OTC is to evaluate new control measures for the region to reduce ozone pollution.
