Barnegat Bay Blitz

May 9, 2012 was a day to behold. Although the weather had other plans for us, our initial intentions were carried through, in spite of. Everyone pulled together as an unstoppable force, weathering the storm, and completing our mission, and some felt we could have pushed to other towns as well. We got it done folks!

Our mission would not have been a success without the resourcefulness of Ship Bottom's Clean Communities Coordinator Bob Rossi. Mr. Rossi provided us with enough sustenance, to endure the storm; as well as, additional cleaning provisions, enabling us to effectively get the job done. And speaking of being resourceful, Bob also recruited approximately 8 volunteers from the area's Vocational School. Bob, thank you for helping us, help bring brightness to your community.

In addition, much appreciation goes out to Captain Joseph Soell, the Conservation Officer. Through the continuous and sometimes heavy rainstorm, Captain Soell transported volunteers to and from the Forsythe Island in Manahawkin, across from the 10th St. boat ramp, in Ship Bottom without incident.

Last but definitely not least, the volunteers from NJGS and other programs, you stepped up to the plate and brought it full circle. I can't tell you how much you are all appreciated, and Steve Johnson from NJGS the photos are awesome, thank you.

October 19, 2011 Blitz Recap:

Volunteers braved the weather to pick up trash on two bayside areas in Ship Bottom, including a bayside park off Bay Terrace between 13th and 16th and another park off Shore Avenue between 8th & 12th.

In total, 13 bags of trash were collected. The trash included bottle caps, plastic bags, doggie diamonds, aluminum cans, clothing, an oil container, and various other items.

Special thanks to Ship Bottom’s Clean Communities Coordinator Bob Rossi for his help planning the event and his day of the event contributions and to all the volunteers who contributed to the cleaned up and positively impacted the health of the Barnegat Bay.
