Barnegat Bay Blitz
South Toms River October 2012 Blitz Event at Drake Lane Recreation Center
The South Toms River Environmental Commission and Council members teamed up with United Water to clean up the wooded area behind the South Toms River Recreation Center at 1 Drake Lane in South Toms River. The effort started off as a cleanup army on foot, until we realized the volume of debris from the dumping occurring in this open space. The United Water crew soon put their work trucks to action! Blazing through the trails with volunteers from NJDEP and the Borough Council and Environmental Commission, the day went on filling the truckloads of trash and recyclable materials. NJDEP Compliance and Enforcement Solid Waste officials visited the location to determine best course of action to deter dumping from occurring in the future.
October 19, 2011 Blitz Recap:
The South Toms River Barnegat Bay Blitz took place at The new construction site at Wiley Way. Located just around the corner from the South Toms River police station, sits a newly developed lot of townhomes with the Jakes Branch of the Toms River running right through the backyard. The AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors hosted the clean up effort at this location. A car dashboard, side door panel, center console, and a liquified petroleum tank were among some of the shocking items found here!
