Barnegat Bay Blitz

On Saturday May 5, 2012, we cleaned litter and construction debris from Allaire State Park, which is in both the Barnegat Bay and Manasquan watersheds. Our partners included Allaire State Park staff, Monmouth County Clean Communities, Girl Scout Troop 1017, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors Program, and Jersey Off Road Bicycling Association.

Our totals for the clean-up are 27 bags of trash, 10 bags of recycling, and additional construction debris. Our most interesting finds were a pool liner, a boot with plants growing in it, and lots of items from the 1970s: broken harvest gold toilet, a mattress, orange shag rug and car parts. The estimated weight was over 1500 pounds and it filled most of a large utility truck. On the natural world side, we came across box turtles and ring-necked snakes.
