OBD Problem Vehicles
 

The table below is a list of vehicles that are known to have problems when performing an OBDII test. Technicians who perform emissions test and/or fix the emission related problems of motor vehicles should familiarize themselves with the information contained in this table.

Any changes to the content of this list shall be accompanied by a VID message. However, it is highly recommended that every technician remain current on the content of this table.

Year Make Model Problem Resolution
1996 Mercedes C220, E320, C280, S320, SL320 MIL falsely illuminated during KOER if scan tool plugged in No change is necessary.  New Jersey test procedures require the KOER check in only a few circumstances, and during those conditions the scan tool is not plugged in.
1996 Mitsubishi All MIL not on and no DTCs, but electronic check indicates MIL is commanded on No change is necessary.  Vehicles will fail, and should return to dealer as they are subject to recall (#EMR-02-001, November 2002)
1997-2002 VW, Audi All If aftermarket stereo is installed, OBD system may not communicate This would properly result in a failure to communicate and the vehicle would have to be repaired to pass the OBDII test. 
1996 Dodge Stealth with 3.0L engine All monitors set to not ready at each key off if all were previously set to ready. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.
1996-1997 Mitsubishi Diamonte, 3000GT, 3000GT Spyder, Montero, Montero Sport with 3.0L and 3.5L engines All monitors set to not ready at each key off if all were previously set to ready. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.
1996 Subaru All All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#11-49-97R.
1996 Volvo 850 Turbo All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#2230059.
1996 Chrysler Cirrus, Concorde, LHS, Sebring, Sebring Convertible All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#18-005-01.
1996 Dodge Avenger, Intrepid, Stratus, Neon All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#18-005-01.
1996 Eagle Talon, Vision All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#18-005-01.
1996 Plymouth Breeze, Neon All monitors set to not ready at each key off. No change necessary; included on the readiness exclusion list.  TSB#18-005-01.
1996 Infinity All The catalyst and evaporative monitors are difficult to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However, they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See Nissan TSB#98-018C.
1996-1998 Mitsubishi All except 3.0 and 3.5L engines (noted above) Some monitors are difficult to set to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See Mitsubishi TSB# 00-13-005.
1996 Nissan All The catalyst and evaporative monitors are difficult to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See Nissan TSB#98-018C.
1997 Nissan 2.0 L 200SX The catalyst and evaporative monitors are difficult to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See Nissan TSB#98-018C.
1996-1998 SAAB All The catalyst and evaporative monitors are difficult to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See SAAB TSB#248-9037.
1997 Toyota Tercel and Paseo The evaporative monitor will never set to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  TSB#EG003R-02.
1996-1998 Volvo All except 850 Turbo Some monitors are difficult to set to complete No change is necessary; included on readiness exclusion list.  However they could be left off list and simply driven until readiness criteria are met.  See Volvo SB#2230056.
