Mission Statement

The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste is dedicated to the environmentally sound and cost effective management of solid and hazardous wastes and recyclable materials, to protect the public health, preserve the environment, and enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the State of New Jersey.

Our Goal

Provide leadership, planning, education, and financial and technical assistance to enable the citizens and businessess of the State to manage their waste responsibly.

Promote pollution prevention, source reduction, recycling, and beneficial use.

Develop solutions to problems in partnership with citizens and businesses.

Develop regulations based on applicable scientific data.

Coordinate the Division's efforts with other agencies, to assist the regulated community in achieving compliance.

Apply regulations and policies in a reasonable and consistent manner, and in coordination with the Department's enforcement staff.
