The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish & Wildlife announces an important check station change in Union County for the remainder of the 2001-2002 deer seasons.
The Division has received numerous complaints concerning check stations not verifying the possession and/or gender of deer being checked in. Check stations are required to confirm the gender of deer to ensure that Earn-A-Buck regulations are being followed. As such, Division conservation officers are placing special emphasis on hunter and check station tagging requirements.
Officers confirmed that New Providence Exxon located at 50 South Street in New Providence had been handing metal possession seals to hunters without confirming the presence and/or gender of a deer. Upon confrontation, New Providence Exxon voluntarily withdrew from the deer check program and will no longer be checking deer. Successful hunters may instead check their deer at Madison Car Care, 122 Main Street in Madison, Morris County.
