PUBLIC URGED TO REPORT ANY BLACK BEARS FOUND DEAD

The Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife urges New Jersey residents to report the locations of any dead black bears they encounter on roadsides or elsewhere in the state. Information collected from these animals provides the Division with valuable data needed to ensure the proper management of this species.

The Division also reminds residents that dead bears and/or their parts found in New Jersey cannot be legally possessed. A special Scientific Salvage Permit issued by the Division must be obtained prior to procuring any bear parts for environmental displays. Such permits are only granted to scientific or educational institutions that can demonstrate a need for them.
