2003 PHEASANT & QUAIL STOCKING SCHEDULE

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife will begin stocking pheasant and quail prior to the opening day of small game season on Saturday, Nov. 8. Birds will be available for hunting from Nov. 8 through Dec. 30. A total release of 50,000 pheasants and 11,000 quail can be expected on designated wildlife management areas (WMAs). If any additional pheasants become available they will be stocked after the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Sportsmen and women should be aware that the pheasant and quail-stocking list is tentative and may change due to inclement weather. Individuals hunting for pheasant and quail on stocked WMAs must possess a New Jersey Pheasant and Quail Stamp in addition to a valid firearm-hunting license.

Following is a list of WMAs to be stocked: In the northern region, a total of 26,300 pheasants will be released on the Flatbrook, Whittingham, Walpack, Black River, Berkshire Valley, Pequest and Clinton WMAs for hunting on Nov. 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will have pheasants on Nov. 8, 15, 22, 27, 29 and Dec. 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30.

In the central region, a total of 11,850 pheasants will be stocked on the Colliers Mills, Howardsville, Manahawkin, Stafford Forge, Medford, Assunpink and Manasquan WMAs. The Colliers Mills and Assunpink WMAs will have birds for hunting on Nov. 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30. The Howardsville, Manahawkin, Medford, Manasquan and Stafford Forge WMA’s will have birds on Nov. 8, 15, 22, 27, 29 and Dec. 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30.

A total of 11,850 pheasants are scheduled to be stocked in the southern region on the Glassboro, Dix, Mad Horse, Millville, Nantuxent, Port Republic, Tuckahoe, Winslow and Heislerville WMAs. The Glassboro, Dix, Millville, Nantuxent, Port Republic and Tuckahoe WMAs will have birds on Nov. 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30. Mad Horse, Winslow and Heislerville WMA’s will have birds on Nov. 8, 15, 22, 27, 29 and Dec. 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30.

The 11,000 quail will be distributed evenly between the Greenwood Forest and Peaslee WMAs. Birds will be available for hunting on Nov. 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 20, 23, 27 and 30.

* Note: the Fort Dix Military Base will not be stocked with pheasants again this hunting season due to security concerns.
