All New Jersey students in grades 3-8 are invited to mark New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week by submitting posters in the Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife's first annual Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week Poster Contest. The theme of the poster is “Conserve New Jersey's Fish and Wildlife.”

"Winners in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Week Poster Contest will have a truly unique opportunity to share their appreciation of wildlife with our biologists when they visit a black bear's winter den," division director Bob McDowell said. "Through this poster contest, students have the opportunity to put their appreciation of wildlife and the environment onto paper. Youngsters seem to recognize that New Jersey's fish and wildlife resources are among the state's most valuable assets."

There will be first, second and third place winners in each of the following categories: Grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Posters will be judged according to originality and depiction of New Jersey wildlife species. Any medium (pen and ink, acrylic, watercolor, etc.) may be used, but posters can be no larger than 28" x 22".

Each winner will receive an engraved plaque and a signed-by-artist copy of the book, New Jersey Wildlife Profiles, Vol. I. In addition, first place winners, their immediate families and their teachers will be invited to accompany division biologists on a research trip to a black bear den.

Entries must be postmarked by Saturday, October 25, 1997. Entries must include the entrant's name, address, telephone number, grade and school name. Posters become the property of the division and will not be returned.
