The Division of Fish & Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Species Program in cooperation with Verizon Foundation and the Conserve Wildlife Foundation will offer a workshop for teachers on the peregrine falcon in Jersey City. The peregrine is an endangered species in New Jersey; there are currently fewer than 19 nesting pairs statewide. They have nested atop the city's tallest building -- 101 Hudson -- for several years. This year, with help from Verizon Foundation, the peregrine can become a topic of study through a live webcam. Teachers and students in Jersey City and elsewhere can study the peregrine from their own classrooms thanks to Verizon technology.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide background on the peregrine falcon nesting project and a networking opportunity for teachers to share information on how this might fit into their curricula. The workshop will feature speakers from the Endangered and Nongame Species Program who will provide background on peregrine falcons in New Jersey. We'll introduce the technology used to study peregrines, and share resources available on the web. An up-close view of the peregrines nesting atop the building may be provided if conditions are right.

Teachers and environmental educators are welcome to attend this free workshop. Reservations are required. Please RSVP to Mimi Dunne by email: dunne@nac.net or by printing and faxing the registration form below to 908-637-6735. Directions will be sent on receipt of reservation. Questions may be directed to Mimi Dunne at 908-637-4125.
