DIESEL
RISK REDUCTION
PURPOSE OF FUNDING
Provide a source of funding to reimburse diesel vehicle
owners who are complying with the New Jersey Diesel
Mandatory Retrofit Rule, the cost to purchase and install
retrofit control devices, which will bring about the
reduction of particulate emissions from diesel engines.
SOURCE OF FUNDING
A portion of the Corporate Business Tax.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE
New Jersey based owners of: school buses, solid waste
collection vehicles that are publicly owned or used
in public contracts, commercial buses, and publicly
owned off-road diesel equipment, who are subject to
the New Jersey Diesel Mandatory Retrofit Rule. A more
detailed description of what is eligible for reimbursement
can be found in the New Jersey Diesel Mandatory Retrofit
Rule.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR
CONSIDERATION
The applicant must own a diesel school bus, regulated
commercial bus, regulated solid waste vehicle, regulated
on-road vehicle or regulated off-road equipment that
is subject to the New Jersey Diesel Mandatory Retrofit
Rule.
GRANT LIMITATIONS
The applicant must meet warranty and emission reduction
requirements as stated in the New Jersey Diesel Mandatory
Retrofit Rule. Except for Closed Crankcase Ventilation
Systems, all other retrofit devices must be verified
by either the US Environmental Protection Agency or
the California Air Resources Board. Also, an
installer who has been authorized by the retrofit manufacturer
must install the retrofit device.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
Previous deadlines which were based on the School Bus installation deadline have passed. The submittal deadline for the Inventory/Cost estimate for “Public owned on and off-road vehicles” is September 8, 2011.
NOTIFICATION DATE
Fleet owners are provided with deadline dates (modifications, installation and annual supplements) in review letters from the program managers.
