Ceremony:
|
Beginning in 1989 preservationists
have gathered together each year to celebrate National
Historic Preservation Month by honoring individuals, business, and organizations
in New Jersey who have made important contributions to the preservation
of the State's historic resources. The purpose of the Historic Preservation
Awards program is to increase public awareness of historic preservation
and to recognize contributions by individuals, organizations and agencies,
projects of excellent quality, and volunteer contributions to preserve historic

New Jersey Historic Preservation Plan
|
Each state historic
preservation office is responsible for developing a historic preservation
plan, which is approved by the National Park Service in the Department of
the Interior. The New Jersey Historic Preservation Plan (NJHPP) has been
in place since 1996. It has served to guide many initiatives statewide such
as the New Jersey State Development/ Redevelopment Plan, numerous county
and municipal historic preservation plans and the activities of the HPO.

Drew University Certificate in Historic Preservation
|
The
HPO participates in the first program of its kind in New Jersey: Drew University's
certificate in historic preservation. The program is designed to provide
a comprehensive introduction to the field of historic preservation. The
curriculum combines the theory and practice of historic preservation through
a series of courses, primarily skill-based, taken for Continuing Education
Units (CEUs). The courses are held at Drew University and meet in the evenings
for two hours a week for ten weeks and are occasionally supplemented by
hands-on, weekend workshops. These courses are designed for anyone interested
in learning more about historic preservation.
