COASTAL GENERAL PERMIT 23 – Modification of existing electrical substations

The Coastal General Permit 23 authorizes modification of existing electrical substations within the existing fence line to maintain the substation and electrical load and system reliability.  The particulars of this general permit include:

  • The activities occur within the cleared maintained portions of the site within the existing fenced area.
  • The activities must not have an adverse impact on Special Areas defined at N.J.A.C. 7:7E-3.

You can read the full details in the rule at N.J.A.C.7:7-7.23.
If your project does not meet the requirements or limitations of Coastal General Permit 23, it may qualify for a permit-by-rule, other general permit, or a CAFRA Individual Permit.  Please review those tabs under Coastal Permitting for additional information.
