PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Hunting and Shooting Sports Outreach Program provides consultation, negotiation and education services for municipal attorneys, other local government officials and residents to reach a positive outcome on sensitive issues regarding hunting and shooting issues within a jurisdiction. The program’s customer service will focus on developing strategies to address hunting and target shooting safety issues while conveying law enforcement options for a mutually beneficial outcome.
Staff will conduct on-site field investigation, where appropriate, of a shooting range or hunting incident location. An effective committee approach is often the most productive method to create an action plan for the municipality to implement with fish and wildlife support.
Coordination among the staff of wildlife biologists, conservation officers, wildlife control and other fish and wildlife representatives is used to compile supporting history, research, biological data and regulatory information necessary to develop a specific and effective strategy unique to each municipality’s situation.
