State Park Service's Fall & Winter Calendar of Events Now Available

(02/97) TRENTON - The Fall & Winter Calendar of Events published by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) State Park Service is now available free of charge at all state parks, forests, recreation areas and historic sites. The calendar offers hundreds of recreational and cultural events and activities from October 2002 through March 2003.

"This fall and winter we are offering hundreds of events at our historic sites and natural areas and I encourage the public to take advantage of these opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and family entertainment," said DEP Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell. "We're proud to offer an array of activities that highlight many of New Jersey's most scenic and culturally significant sites."

In addition to providing places to enjoy leisure activities such as historic site tours, cross-country skiing and hiking, the State Park Service and its dedicated volunteers and friends groups organize special events to help enrich a visitor's experience.

The calendar includes a wide variety of holiday activities featuring haunted hayrides through the forest, harvest festivals, open house galas and events especially for children. State historic sites are hosting guided tours and events promoting New Jersey's role in the American Revolutionary War, including "A Revolutionary Time" lecture series held at locations statewide.

State Park Service programs and events include:

  • All Hallows' Eve in the 1830s at Allaire Village, October 27
  • Wilderness Survival Programs at Belleplain State Forest
  • Fall Migration at Cape May Point State Park
  • Annual Crossing of the Delaware on December 25 at Washington Crossing State Park
  • A Victorian Christmas at Ringwood Manor, December 7,8,14 & 15 at Ringwood State Park
  • Season long astronomy programs at Jenny Jump State Forest and Voorhees State Park
