A TOAST TO GENERAL WASHINGTON’S 286TH!
George Washington, retired Continental Army Commander in Chief and First President of the United States, will be celebrated at Rockingham on Saturday, February 24, with tours commemorating his 286th birthday. While Washington will only be present in spirit (and in the form of our wonderful life-sized mannequin in exactingly-recreated uniform on the second floor), visitors can learn about his life and times, before, during and after his famous careers. Test your knowledge about this American icon and learn what is fact and what is fiction. The tours will be concluded with the partaking of cakes and punch in the kitchen to complete the celebration.
Tours are offered from 12 to 4 pm, with tours on the hour and, possibly, half-hour (last tour at 3 or 3:30 accordingly), depending on availability of staff and volunteers and the Museum Store will be open. Tour size is limited and reservations are strongly suggested to guarantee admittance. Please call 609-683-7132 for reservations. A donation of $5 is suggested.
Please note that the regular history of the house will not be emphasized during these special tours, but visitors are always welcome to return and visit the house on another day (check our website for regular tour times—though it is always encouraged to call first to make sure the schedule hasn’t changed on a particular day).
