Snow Removal Guidelines

Attention NJ Municipalities:

In preparation of the pending snow storm and potential icing conditions, the Department is reminding municipalities that its Snow Removal and Disposal Policy can be found on the Department’s web page at: www.nj.gov/dep/dwq/pdf/snow-removal-12-12-2016.pdf

Municipalities are also reminded that information regarding road de-icing materials may be found in the Department’s Highway Agency Stormwater Guidance available at:
www.nj.gov/dep/dwq/highway_guidance.htm (See chapter 11, page 81).

snowplowAfter the storm event has passed, municipalities should clear any blockages of snow or debris that may be on top of storm drain catch basins. This effort will help to prevent localized flooding that may result from melting snow. Please be sure to use appropriate precautions when attempting to clear any stormwater related infrastructure.
