NJDEP has approved through a Permit-by-Rule the addition of a non-toxic tracer material of either potassium bromide or Brilliant Blue FCF for the purpose of hydraulic testing as the first stage of the ground water remediation pilot study. The addition of the tracer and monitoring of its depletion will provide data to determine ground water velocity at predetermined depths across the aquifer. The testing will be conducted over an approximate 3-week time period.
NJDEP will be conducting oversight of the hydraulic testing activities through periodic on-site monitoring and the review of the collection of data as it is submitted. This testing will not result in any effect on the existing ground water contamination and as such will have no added impact on the existing vapor intrusion concerns for the neighborhood.
