Coverages Available on the Internet For Downloading |
These coverages are available via the Internet to any user. In general, where DEP data sets are available both from a CD and via the Internet, the online version may be more recent and should be used preferentially. In all cases, read the metadata for a description of how current the data are. New GIS data sets are being made available across the Internet daily. Uses are encouraged to keep checking the various sources of online coverages to be aware of any new additions.

| Data | Brief Description | Link |
| CAFRA |
The Coastal Area Facilities Review Act (CAFRA) legislates land use within the coastal area. Thus the boundary of the area was delineated. This shape file, CAFRA_2 has been modified by the Pinelands commission and updates the boundary (from the Bureau of Tidelands 1988 boundary) to reflect 1993 modifications to CAFRA. |
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis |
| Coastal centers | This data set is a depiction of coastal center boundaries used in permitting by the Land Use Regulation Program of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
|
Drainage Basins |
Drainage basins (DEPHUC14) are delineated from 1:24,000-scale (7.5-minute) USGS quadrangles. The delineations have been developed for general purpose use by USGS District staff over the past 20 years. Arc and polygon attributes have been included in the coverage with basin names and ranks of divides, and 14-digit hydrologic unit codes. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| DIFF files, by county | The Department Integrated Facility File (DIFF) is a facility and permit point layer that was created through the assimilation of thirteen different regulatory permit databases maintained by the department. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| Dams | This data set locates the dams in the state of New Jersey that are listed in the records of the NJDEP Dam Safety Section. This includes high, significant and low hazard dams as well as 2x unclassified dams and dams which have been removed. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| Named Places | Point coverage of place names and features that are found on the USGS 7.5' topoquad series, specifically locale and populated places. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| Natural Heritage Priority Sites | The Natural Heritage Priority Sites Coverage was created to identify the best habitats for rare plant and animal species and natural communities through analysis of information in the NJ Natural Heritage Database. Natural Heritage Priority Sites contain some of the best and most viable occurrences of endangered and threatened species and natural communities, but they do not cover all known habitat for endangered and threatened species in New Jersey. If information is needed on whether or not endangered or threatened species have been documented from a particular piece of land, a Natural Heritage Database search can be requested by contacting the Office of Natural Lands Management (Phone: 609-984-1339). | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| NJ Coastline | This shapefile depicts the coastline of New Jersey. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| NJ county boundaries | County boundaries in New Jersey were gathered from USGS topoquads and other sources in 1987. The scale of the original data varies, relying primarily on 1:24,000 topoquads. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| New Jersey Municipalities | Municipal boundaries in New Jersey were gathered from USGS topoquads and other sources in 1987. Since that time, updates to the data have been limited to noting consolidations of boundaries. The scale of the original data varies, relying primarily on 1:24,000 topoquads. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |

|
Land Use & Land Cover, 1995/87 |
1995/97 Landuse/Landcover by Watershed Management Polygon shapefiles for WMAs are being created by comparing the 1986 LU/LC layers from the NJDEP GIS database to the 1995/97 color infrared digital imagery, and delineating areas of change. In addition, an impervious surface (IS) code has been assigned to each polygon. All polygons retain the original 1986 landuse code, as well as being given a 1995/97 landuse code so that change analysis can be done directly from these data sets. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
| Municipalities, by county | A series of 21 shape file showing municipal boundaries in each county. | http://www.state.nj.us/dep/gis/ |
