The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Implementation is responsible for ensuring public water systems satisfy Federal and State drinking water standards and the other provisions of the Federal and State Safe Drinking Water Acts.
The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Implementation also:
- Assists public water systems in achieving and maintaining compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act regulations.
- Reviews analytical data for compliance determination for all regulated parameters.
- Issues of violation and MCL exceedance letters.
- Responds to water main breaks, including review for determination of whether or not a boil water advisory is warranted, fielding calls from the public regarding boil water notices, providing status updates to various state and local agencies, and reviewing analytical data to determine when it is safe to lift advisories.
- Assists County Health Departments in water system compliance issues.
- Report Significant Non-compliance (SNC) to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
- Administers Security, and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act.
- Operates electronic data management systems that maintain drinking water system inventory data and monitoring analytical data used to determine compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
- Provides support to the Division of Water Supply programs for Water Allocation, and Water Systems and Well Permitting.
- Maintains and reviews water quality data submitted under the Private Well Testing Act.
