AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program Recruitment
The AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program is an environmental community service program administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Twenty members are selected each year to raise public awareness
about water and watershed issues and to promote stewardship through direct community involvement. Ambassadors are placed with host agencies in each of New Jersey's twenty Watershed Management Areas and work with local non-profits, government agencies, schools, utilities and citizens to improve water quality through education and restoration projects such as stream cleanups, invasive species removal, rain barrel workshops etc. Applicants are placed within geographic proximity of their home address to the nearest host agency. Out-of-state applicants should carefully research housing costs to remain within budget
of the stipend.
Contingent upon receiving grant funding, the NJ Watershed Ambassador program is slated to commence September 8, 2016. Interested applicants for the 2016-2017 term must submit their applications, along with references, resume and cover letter, through the "My AmeriCorps" website. The application portal may be accessed directly by clicking here: New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program. Applicants are accepted on a rolling admission basis. Applications will be accepted/reviewed through August 31, 2016 or until all positions are filled. Qualified candidates will be interviewed by phone, followed by an in-person interview at DEP Headquarters in Trenton, New Jersey. Candidates who are offered an Ambassador position will be matched with a host agency located within close proximity of their residence. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license, and must have reliable transportation to get to and from field sites.
