Display of License Requirements
The company license must be printed and displayed on the wall at the business address of the company
Branch Office License:
The branch office license must be printed and displayed on the wall at the business address of the branch office.
Every individual that has an active, New Jersey real estate license can generate their own pocket card license using NJDOBI Online Licensing Services (see link at bottom of this page to login). Once logged in, your license can be printed and/or saved as a digital image. All licensed individuals (*) must carry in their possession either the digital image OR the printed pocket card whenever transacting business. In either case, the pocket card license must be legible.
* The term "licensed individuals" refers to all NJ licensed Brokers of Record (Employing Brokers included), Brokersalespersons, Salespersons and Referral Agents.
Generating and Printing New Jersey Real Estate Licenses
Brokers of Record :
The Online Licensing Services Main Menu for Brokers of Record contains two links regarding generating and printing licenses:
- Generate Licenses
- Email My Individual License
The "Generate Licenses" menu item will allow brokers of record to view, save and/or print the real estate license for the company, any branch offices, and any or all licensees actively licensed with the company. The link to that main menu is http://recbrokers.nj.gov.
The "Email My Individual License" menu item will allow brokers of record to view and/or email a digital copy of their own, individual brokers license.
Brokersalespersons, Salespersons, Referral Agents:
As noted above, the individual license is now also the pocket card. To be in compliance with N.J.S.A. 45:15-14, brokers should provide each licensee with a printed copy of that individual’s pocket card license. Once this is done, the individual has two options: carry the physical copy of their pocket card license; or have a digital image of their pocket card license in
their possession (cell phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic device). Regardless of which option is chosen, the licensee must have either the paper or digital pocket card license in their possession at all times when engaged in the business of a real estate broker, broker-salesperson, salesperson or referral agent and must be able to produce the physical or electronic image of their
pocket card license upon request.
To comply with the requirement imposed by N.J.S.A. 45:15-12 that all licenses be
displayed in brokers’ offices, brokers must print and display the firm’s broker license and, if
applicable, the license of the broker of record. In addition, the broker must display or be able to
produce a copy of the physical version of the pocket card licenses of all individual licensees with
their firm. The paper pocket card licenses of individuals may be displayed either at the broker’s main office or at the branch office from which the individual works. Those licenses may be displayed on a wall or kept in a book at the real estate office and, upon request, be produced for inspection by the public. Alternatively, upon request the broker must be able to produce and
print the electronic version of the license of any individual licensed with his or her firm at the firm’s main office.
The On-line Qualifying Questionnaire
An online qualifying questionnaire was implemented in May 2013. The questionnaire was modified to pertain to an individual and is no longer representative of both you AND all of your company's licensees as was the process prior to 2013. The answers you indicate on any qualifying questionnaire should be specific to you alone and pertain to you as an individual. Please remember: the submission of a qualifying questionnaire DOES NOT activate, reinstate or renew your real estate license, it is simply a requirement for licensure.
Each licensee (individual) that you intend to hire, reinstate or renew will be required to complete and submit their own online questionnaire. This includes all Brokers of Record, Brokersalespersons, Salespersons, and Referral Agents. No paper questionnaires will be accepted.
The following link will let you access your online services menu. From this menu you will be able to answer your qualifying questions AND access the online license renewal for your companies:
Continuing Education Requirements (does not apply to Referral Agents)
Each licensee (individual) that you intend to hire, reinstate or renew must have completed their Continuing Education requirement for the appropriate licensing period. This includes all Brokers of Record, Brokersalespersons and Salespersons. Click here for details.
Overview of the Renewal Process
As the Broker of Record, there are three steps to the process of renewing your company, your Broker license, and your licensees:
1. First submit your own 2013 Online Qualifying Questionnaire
Selecting "View Licensee Renewal Qualifications" from your online Licensing Services Main Menu will display a list of all active licensees for your company and whether or not they have completed their continuing education requirement and renewal questionnaire (view sample Licensee Renewal Qualifications pagel).
* Licensees without an active real estate license will not appear on your Renewal List.
