3. Information on how to register for the National Do Not Call List.

The State of New Jersey uses the National "Do Not Call" Registry maintained by the Federal Trade Commission in its enforcement. Your telephone number must be registered for at least 90 days before a violation can be assessed.

(To register by telephone, call 888-382-1222. To register online, log onto http://www.donotcall.gov. To register by phone, you must call from the telephone number you want to register. To register online, you will need an active e-mail address. If you have more than one telephone number, be sure to register each one or you may still get calls on the number that's not registered. Registration is free. Please note that telemarketers will have up to three months from the date you register your telephone number on the federal "Do Not Call" registry to stop calling you.)

19. Suggested telephone call documentation.

Documentation can be anything that proves a certain company called your home at a particular time from a particular telephone number. For example:

  • a photograph of a Caller ID screen;
  • a tape recorded message of the phone call;
  • a journal detailing the important facts of the call and any conversations with salespeople;
  • your cellular telephone bill that includes incoming phone calls;
  • any other tangible proof of the unsolicited call.
