| The horseshoe crab outline of their shells gave the " crabs " their name. About the size of an overturned soup plate, the horseshoe crab is really not a crab at all. If you were to look under its hood, you would find it more closely resembles an oceangoing spider. They are in a classification of their own and are related to scorpions, ticks, and land spiders.
