DRBC-hosted N.J. Watershed Ambassador's Outreach Events for Earth Week 2013

The Americorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program is an environmental community service program administered by the N.J. Dept. of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to raise public awareness about water and watershed issues and to promote watershed stewardship through direct community involvement. AmeriCorps members are assigned to different watersheds throughout the state to serve as "watershed ambassadors" to their watershed communities. 

DRBC is a proud supporter of this program and annually hosts the watershed ambassador for Watershed Management Area 11 (WMA-11), which covers the central Delaware portion of New Jersey. Jade Greene is the 2012-2013 ambassador for WMA-11.
Saturday, April 20: Clean-Up at Mercer County Park

Jade participated in a clean-up of Mercer County Park on Saturday, April 20, 2013 starting at 10 a.m. Litter was picked up along the Lake, Macadam, and Woods Trails. 

Jade also taught participants about water quality by leading a stream assessment.

Volunteers met at the upper Boat Marina parking lot, accessible from Hughes Drive or Edinburg Road. Trash bags and gloves were provided.

Monday, April 22: Earth Day Celebration at Rider University

Jade participated in Rider University's Earth Day Celebration on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Campus Mall (Rain location: SRC Courts).

NJDEP Assistant Commissioner for Sustainability and Green Energy (SAGE) Bob Marshall stopped by to show his support and participate in the festivities.

Various activities were offered, including:

  • Check out the information tables, including Jade's, to learn about how you can make a positive impact on the environment 
  • Test your "green-knowledge" at the Green Wheel and win a prize
  • Learn about Rider's efforts to reduce its impact on the environment

    Saturday, April 27: 7th Annual Trenton Thunder Clean Water Pledge Program Game

    The Trenton Thunder minor league professional baseball team has once again partnered with the N.J. Watershed Ambassador Program on an initiative that educates students about water pollution and rewards them for making a pledge to live in a more environmentally sound way. The reward is a free ticket to one of the team's games: Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Portland Sea Dogs.

    Jade Greene, N.J. Watershed Ambassador for WMA-11, offered interactive presentations on water pollution for students of all ages during the fall and winter. At the conclusion of the lesson, students were given a "Clean Water Pledge" form listing actions they can take to protect their watershed. Students were encouraged to sign the pledge form and return it to the Thunder for their free ticket. View pledge form (pdf 936 KB).

    Jade and DRBC staff liaison Pamela V'Combe enjoyed the game on April 27, along with the clean water pledge students who attended. Jade set up a table in the concourse and talked about water pollution with the students and their families, as well as other game attendees.
