The Egg Harbor City School District, in collaboration with several community organizations, will operate a 21st Century Community Learning Center program at one site in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. This small, economically challenged community is located in the heart of Atlantic County, New Jersey. As a Title 1 district in need of improvement, Egg Harbor City students face various social risks and educational challenges daily. Although Egg Harbor City has had success with the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant for the past ten years, the future vision of the program will unite the district and the grant in providing students with a quality extended learning opportunity.
Egg Harbor City Public Schools, in conjunction with local collaborators, will provide a supervised and safe out of school environment for students and their families in grades 4 through 8 with the goal of increasing academic achievement, improving parental involvement in the school community, create positive adult interaction among students, increase physical exercise, and most importantly improve state test scores. The Egg Harbor City 21st Century Community Learning Center program, turned R.E.A.C.H., Recreation, Enrichment, Academics, Character, and Health, will provide before school programming from 7:10am-8:10 daily, and after school programming from 2:55pm-5:55pm daily at the Egg Harbor City Community School. The 21st Century Program will begin the second week of September and commence the last week in May totaling 37 weeks annually. The Egg Harbor City 21st Century Community Learning Center program will also offer a 4 week summer camp in July and parental involvement activities during the grant year.
