Abstract:
The Academic and Community Enrichment (ACE) Institute represents a collaboration between Mullica Township School District, a disadvantaged rural, diverse elementary school district in partnership with their regional high school, Oakcrest High School.  The project consortium also includes the Southern Regional Initiative (SRI) of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in providing professional development, and serving on the ACE Institute Advisory Board.

In addition to being ethnically and culturally diverse, both Mullica Township School District and Oakcrest High School are relatively low-income, with Mullica Township Middle School housing 53% Free Lunch students and Oakcrest High School receiving Title I funds for 27% Free and Reduced Lunch students.  Economically disadvantaged students in these districts perform significantly lower than non-economically disadvantaged students based on state assessment data.  As evidenced on the NJ School Report Card, students in these districts exhibit an increasing number of behavioral problems.

ACE offers comprehensive programs: academic instruction, tutoring, counseling, mentoring and character education, along with artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities to students and their families such as family literacy activities, family math nights and parenting workshops.
