The Union City 21st CCLC Student Opportunities After School Results (S.O.A.R.) will directly address the academic and developmental needs of students in grades 4 through 8 in Colin Powell School, George Washington School, Emerson Middle School and Union Hill Middle School and provide opportunities for parental involvement and education. It is anticipated that participating students will make meaningful progress towards improving academic performance and school attendance and developing and sustaining positive student behaviors. The after school setting provides an opportunity for positive interactions with peers and caring adults, and offers a constructive, academically enriched environment.
Projected CCLC student demographics for the 2014-2015 school year include about an even number of boys/girls; 94% Hispanic; 11% LEP; 90% free/reduced lunch; 76% speak Spanish as their native language and 16% special needs students.
The purpose of the program is to:
-increase students' career and college readiness and academic achievement by offering high quality supplemental services in core academic areas such as reading/math, enrichment activities including arts/culture, youth development and physical activity toward the ultimate goal of attaining skills to meet and exceed Common Core State Standards;
